Here’s my review of Wired Magazine editor-in-chief Chris Anderson’s new book Free: The Future of a Radical Price. It ran in the Globe and Mail newspaper. Anderson previously wrote The Long Tail book, which got a lot of notice and attention.

in other words, we are still speaking about “monopolies” and dominance within a global marketplace whose social and business models are “still operating” much as they have done for the past several millenia. In effect, there is nothing “new under the sun” here. That a company like Google is experiencing problems with China should be an indicator of this, as well. Political-Economics still remains for the “intelligentsia” and academia albeit the general public - witness Iran - will use all media when and where it is effective. What is more worrisome is the North American electorate which has become “A”-politicized to an extreme since the 1960’s. Baby-boomers created and are part of this problem. The election of President Obama with his increasing use of Internet technology during his campaign for election is interesting as well. The point is: whether “blogs”, social networks, Google, etc and the delivery over Smart phones,the proprietary means to deliver content remains very much a “supply-chain” for-profit business venture. Notice how little is devoted to Free-Internet ISPs devoid of Madison and Wall Street influence. The pivotal event(person) remains Richard Stallman.
